My name is Puth Maya, and I am 23 years old. I was born and studied in the countryside of Siem Reap Province. My father is a farmer, and my mother is a housewife. I have two sisters and one brother. My older brother did not attend school because of my family’s poverty, and my older sister completed Grade 12 but could not continue to university because my family could not afford the tuition fees. Therefore, the best option for me was to find a scholarship opportunity. After graduating from high school, I heard about the scholarship program from CEDO and applied to study in 2021. This opportunity changed my life significantly. CEDO supported my studies for four years and also provided financial support to my family. In May 2025, I graduated from Build Bright University with a major in Banking and Finance. During my foundation year, I also completed in several short courses, including a one-year English program, computer classes, a QuickBooks course, and soft skills training. These programs greatly improved my abilities, especially my communication skills and self-confidence. After staying with the organization for two years, I volunteered to assist the CEDO director in managing the center and handling daily financial operations. My responsibilities included accounting tasks, paying taxes and utility bills, and coordinating with volunteers. When I was in my third year at university, the director encouraged me to apply for an Accountant position at New Hope Organization. During the interview, I demonstrated the accounting knowledge and skills that I had learned and developed. After waiting for two months, I was surprised and excited to learn that I had passed the interview and was offered the position. When I first started working there, my manager expected that I would only be able to assist her with about 40 to 50 percent of the work because I was still a student. However, she was surprised that I was able to support her with around 80 percent of the tasks. This became an important picture in my professional journey and gave me greater confidence in my abilities. During my years at university, I consistently received Outstanding Student awards because of my hard work, commitment, and strong academic performance. These achievements motivated me to continue improving myself and striving toward my future goals. I am deeply grateful to CEDO for teaching me so much and for providing a system of learning that went beyond university education through additional skills training and practical experience. Currently, I am working for ministry of health as an Accountant, which is a career I am truly excited which I never believe I would pass the test and to get the government job but I can do it.
